Graham Birch

Graham Birch has a PhD in Mining Geology from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College.  He spent much of his early career as a mining equity analyst before switching to asset management in 1993.  He became head of the Natural Resources investment team at BlackRock in London where he had overall responsibility for some of the world’s largest precious metals equity mutual funds.  After leaving BlackRock in 2010, Graham joined the boards of two London listed precious metals companies; Petropavlovsk plc and Hochschild Mining plc (where he still serves).  He also joined the board of ETF Securities – a pioneer in the area of gold exchange traded funds.  In late 2019 Graham joined the Board of Sprott Inc, a leading Toronto based resources industry asset manager and gold ETF provider. Graham is based in Dorset, England and spends part of each summer helping with the harvest on his two commercial farms.  In July 2020, Graham’s first book was published – on the history of the metals in Britain’s coins.
